Liz Hathway, M.A., DFAstrolS,  Qualified Horary Craftswoman

I provide bespoke astrological consultations to a diverse international clientele. My approach is eclectic, drawing on both traditional and modern techniques to create a creative, dynamic and individually tailored approach to client work. I work primarily via Zoom, in English and Dutch, with in-person consultations also available in Amsterdam. As a Qualified Horary Craftswoman, I have a particular interest in the art of timing, using horary and electional techniques to help clients identify favourable moments to act.

I hold the Diploma from the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London, one of the world’s oldest and most established institutions for the study of astrology. I also hold an MA with Distinction in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lampeter. An abridged version of my MA thesis on Saturn was published in 2019 in the International Journal for the Study of Nature, Religion and Culture. My book, Daughter of Saturn: An Auto-ethnographic Enquiry into Contemporary Astrological Practice, was published in July 2026 by Sophia Centre Press as part of its Masters Monographs series. For further information about my academic and research writing, please visit my page on Academia.edu.

Let me introduce myself

I was born under a Full Moon, with Scorpio rising, the Sun in Capricorn and a Cancer Moon in the ninth house. My roots are in South Wales, although I now live and practise in Amsterdam. My passion for astrology began as a teenager, when I discovered Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs. More than fifty years later, I continue to study and explore the subject, having had the privilege of learning from leading astrologers including Liz Greene, Bernadette Brady, John Frawley, Nick Campion and Chris Brennan, among many others.

In 2006, I founded a popular Dutch-language astrology blog, Astrologieblog, which includes a substantial collection of articles in English. In 2018, the site was recognised by the Dutch National Library as a website of significant interest to future researchers in the field of social and cultural history. I am honoured that my astrological writing and reflections will form part of the Netherlands’ national archive. Alongside my astrological practice and academic work, I have written for Dutch national newspapers and appeared on Dutch television and radio. I run workshops in Amsterdam, teach at the Hermetic Cosmos School of Astrology, and have lectured extensively in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as internationally in the UK and India.

My Dutch website, Astrologieblog, has been at the heart of my online presence for many years and remains the place where you will find the largest collection of my popular writing. This English-language site is intended as an introduction to my work and practice, and as a point of reference for clients, readers and colleagues who do not speak Dutch.

I have a long-standing interest in astrological magic, ritual and talisman making. For me, astrology is not only something to be interpreted, but something that can also be experienced and engaged with. The stole I am wearing in the photograph was painted during the 1999 Grand Cross Eclipse, an early example of my own attempt to work creatively and ritually with an astrological moment.

I continued to explore this approach during the Saturn–Pluto conjunction, using shamanic drumming to engage with the energy at the time the conjunction became exact. I filmed the ritual and am happy to share a digital copy on request.

I am particularly interested in astrological talisman making as a form of folk art: something creative, accessible and grounded in the simple idea that we can all participate in the symbolic language of the heavens. With the right timing and intention, you don’t need to be a professional magician to make a talisman. In a recent conversation with astrologer Sue Brayne, we explored astrological magic and talisman making from this perspective. We discussed the possibility of bringing these practices out of the realm of specialist occult knowledge and into something more personal, creative and hands-on.
